ALLSAINTS!!
Manchester’s Flagship is undoubtedly one of Allsaints grand designs, its product the peak of their designs, store layout merchandised to the extent of envy and its reputation for quality way above its high street competitors.
You can imagine my amazement when Drapers reported Allsaints to be selling at a loss for this financial year.
It is hardly surprising however that their status has how do you say ‘been corrupted’ by the current climate, their product offerings simply being an marginal upgrade of their styles the season before, which causes me to ask is there anything actually that innovative about their brand, is it simply seasonal re-buy with a twist aimed at the fashion conscious focusing on elaborate pricing rather than forward fashion fixes?
However there are those that would argue, with Allsaints recent exposure at the British soap awards, styled by the idol of Hollyoaks ‘Loui Batley’ , it is the epitome of fashion simply claiming their fashion throne.
Their attention to quality through layering and celebrity endorsed exposure is clearly worthy of red carpet status however lets face it, who would have the guts to parade this on the highstreet? Its colour a subtle shade that is carried throughout seasons, however the cuff cut neckline is only a style carried off by a minute few.
Has Allsaints been exaggerating their brand, simply by using high prices and quirky merchandising when if fact on paper their no better off than their highstreet rival? Or have they given us fashionista’s another reason to get up and glamorize the highstreet the way we do best?
